description: Safety is a critical concern in manufacturing, both for the fabrication of the parts as well as the safety of the parts and assemblies themselves. It is impossible to test every part for every type of failure; therefore, it is important to know what the likelihood of the part not passing the minimum requirements is. If the likelihood of failure is too high, the product or its manufacturing process must be redesigned. In order to determine a products reliability, a large sample set of parts must be tested. Once the dataset is obtained, a probabilistic distribution of failure can be made. What the distribution allows is for the probability that the part will fail in a certain way to be known. The probability that the part will not fail under a specified loading is that part’s reliability. This allows companies to make safe decisions regarding the production of parts and assemblies. In this project, two data sets of physical material properties were statistically analyzed following a probabilistic model. From these data, further probabilistic modeling determined the products reliability, or the products probability of failure. This reliability information compared with the source materials manufacturing process control analysis will determine the overall component design and manufacturing process capabilities. This was done using a modular program in Python used for computational methods of complex statistical and analytical processing.
