Turkey is among these countries that are of interest to architects due to having many cultures that used traditional housing, each formed with its own unique features.Applying a case study of vernacular architecture of Mardin City with its distinctive geography and climate, this thesis purpose is to show that vernacular architecture can be a factor in improving the sustainability in contemporary housing strategies in Turkey. This thesis illustrates the identification of sustainable principles that provide important insights and lessons for those who are involved in the development of future sustainable built environments.
