description: This is a Capstone Design Project made by a team of students, each responsible for a specific role in the project. The team decided to design a multipurpose industrial facility on John Adams Way, in Barnstable Massachusetts. The building will serve as a fitness center as well as a small-scale brewery. The proposed site design includes combining three existing lots into one in order to meet the lot coverage requirements. The facility measures 100’x200’ and stands 29’ tall. The single-story building has high clearances between the floor and the roof girders in order to accommodate a basketball court and brewery equipment. Additionally, the building will be constructed from mild steel elements including beams, columns and open web girders. Structural analysis was used to evaluate the building and determine design loads. These are used in conjunction with LRFD and ASD standards to select the member sizes for the columns and beams. A cul-de-sac, intersection, driveway and a parking lot have been designed and sized appropriately per highway engineering standards. The site engineer has prepared Existing Conditions plans and a proposed site plan including grade contours and drainage. The environmental engineer has made provisions to lower the BOD in effluent flowing from the brewery into the sewer on the main road. The transportation engineer evaluated the existing and future traffic conditions. Based on the observations, multiple solutions were developed to reduce traffic congestion in the area. Lastly, the geotechnical engineer has taken test bores to model the subsurface material. He used this information as well as design loads provided by the structural engineer to design the footings for the columns . To the best of our knowledge this project has been designed in accordance with AISC, IBC, Zoning Bylaws.
