description: The objective of this capstone project was to research and develop a hookless fishing lure, providing a safer recreational fishing experience for both fish and people. Catch and release fishing has seen a steady increase in popularity over recent years. Meanwhile, fishing, as a result of hooks, has remained a leading cause of sports-related eye injuries. Furthermore, research has proven that fish have an increased mortality rate as well as decreased feeding capabilities after being released. Utilizing the engineering design process; alternative solutions to the fishhook were brainstormed in the area of magnets, traps, vibration, and light. Kinematics, CAD models, and FEA Analysis were used as evidence to support the success of the final design solution.
