description: We at Mission Hill Consultants propose the construction of the “Wentworth Ice Complex” on the campus of Wentworth Institute of Technology. This complex, to be built on the existing Sweeney Field, will function as a multi-use complex to host various awards ceremonies, functions, assemblies, and even Wentworth’s graduation. The complex will be able to hold upwards of 4,000 guests for the functions and hockey games, to benefit not only athletes, but the entire Wentworth community. The complex will cover approximately 70,000 square feet, with priority parking spaces for players, coaches, staff, and spectators in need of handicapped parking. The complex lies between both the Green and Orange train lines, making it very easily accessible. An environmentally positive factor of the facility includes the installation of a geothermal system for heating the building. Geotechnically, the facility will be set on deep pile foundations that contain group piles under each column. A complex truss system was designed specifically for the large spans across the bleachers surface of the ice. The existing transportation and roadway conditions were analyzed and it was determined that it was necessary for the rehabilitation of one of the roadways within the project limits.
