description: The objective of this thesis is to investigate theatrical design principles and apply it to the public space. On the stage, multiple technical elements such as lighting, scenery and choreography are used to create spatial environments in which the performers can engage in. The thesis also considers the role of narrative in theater: the audience versus the performer. This relationship is applicable to the conditions of the public space; people put on display with the choice to partake in social interaction or to refrain from it. Designers can learn from the technique of the scenographic elements to provide a methodology of design for public space. By doing so, the users of the public space are drawn to perform certain social narratives, enriching the social environment of the public realm.
