description: Recently sustainability has become the primary focus in architecture as a practice. The built environment has been draining earth’s resources at an alarming rate, and something needs to happen. There have been significant strides in creating a more sustainable environment with programs that have buildings meet specific criteria. With more buildings going up that are not meeting this standard than ones that are, it is apparent that a change needs to be made. The reason for the lack of sustainable buildings going up is the lack of knowledge on the topic. Architecture students gain a basic knowledge of sustainability it school, but most of the time it is out of an outdated textbook. Experiential learning has been proven to be much more efficient than the traditional style of learning. This thesis investigates a hands-on method of teaching sustainability. If students have to opportunity to engage with sustainable systems, they will gain a much better understanding of them. Having future architecture students engage with this style of learning will not only benefit them, but it will help the environment.
