description: The urban network is a system in a state of constant change.From the physical to the economical, these hubs of communities and development aredynamic in their evolution over time. Boston, one of America's oldest cities, is a primeexample of a city that has seen significant growth over the last century, including thelast few decades. Physically, the city has grown in shear size, from the small ShawmutPeninsula to the Boston recognizable today. Economically, the city has prospered fromthe time of the industrial revolution to the rise of modern large corporations that dominate the skyline. Culturally, from the early years of mass immigration to the Americanshoreline, Boston has taken in people from all over the world helping define and changeits neighborhoods. This economic growth, over a long period of time, has contributedto Boston’s placement among some of the top cities in the country today.Not all of this change is positive though. Residents can be indirectly effectedthrough the implementations of larger ideas to better a community. Looking forward,it can be projected that these changes will continue within our neighborhoods. Beingaware of the negative impacts, both physically and economically, that change a community and its residents, I argue that we can design our cities in a more efficient way toadapt to these changes, sometimes sudden, to create a more resilient built landscape forboth the individual and the city.
